Calming Lavender Play Dough
There is something special about this simple, soothing lavender play dough that helps little ones (and mamas) relax and enjoy this classic toddler activity. It smells wonderful and letting little ones create endless possibilities is sure to keep them engaged for a bit! Homemade play dough is my favorite because it is so much softer, smells better and lasts longer. You could use whatever plain recipe is your favorite and add in the lavender or follow this one, originally adapted from . I didn’t quite need as much, so I halved the original recipe.
Ingredients:
2 cups of all purpose flour
1/2 cup of salt
2 cups of water
1/4 cup cream of tartar
5 tablespoons of oil
2-3 drops of
1/8 – 1/4 cup of dried lavender buds (here)
Directions:
1. In a medium saucepan, mix together flour, salt, water, cream of tartar and oil.
2. Over low-medium heat, stirring continuously, mix until dough forms and is no longer sticky.
3. Remove dough from pan and transfer to a clean surface. Allow to cool for 10-15 minutes.
4. Once cool, flatten a bit and drop the essential oil drops in the center and knead it into the dough.
5. Sprinkle some of the lavender buds or let your child experiment with this.
6. Once completely cool, store in an airtight container (should last at least a few months!)
Enjoy!
Love,
Mama M
