Remember back in science class when you got to use pipettes to transfer chemicals and watch reactions take place? How cool it was? Any other science junkies out there with me? When I came across these toddler sized pipettes, I knew I wanted some for Emery. Not only does anything with water usually calm a toddler, but this is a fun new skill that I loved watching Emery master. At first she didn’t quite grasp the concept of squeezing the air out, holding it under the water and releasing to fill up and that’s okay! I let her explore it as she saw fit and each time we would set up this activity, I would show her in the beginning and then step back and let her take over. It didn’t take long before she got the hang of it and I loved seeing how proud she was of being able to do it by herself. Now that we have a new baby in the house, this is one activity that she enjoys doing by herself while I have a quiet moment to nurse baby sister!

To set this up, I provided a tray to contain any spills, two glass containers initially (then moved to three as shown here), one pipette and a napkin to clean up any spills. It is also fun to add food coloring! However, I might suggest using plain water until the skill is mastered, before adding additional elements such as color/color mixing concepts.

Oh and how sweet is this little overall dress? I wore it as a little girl and my mother saved all those years ago, for me to pass along to my little girls.

If you try this out, let me know how your toddler enjoys it!

Love,

Mama M
